New observations on occupational exposure limits for sulfuric acid
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Sulfuric acid was first assessed to be carcinogenic in 1997 in a report of the World Health organization WHO (IARC). Based on this report, the Senate committee dealing with the control of harmful substances in the workplace submitted the first proposal justifying a lower occupational exposure limit [2].This proposal contained a list of many individual studies. In the investigations which were part of the survey, golden hamsters, for example, were exposed to concentrated sulfuric acid mist produced by ultrasonic spraying at a concentration of more than 200 mg per m3 of breathable air. Only irritation of the mucous membranes was diagnosed. Only one group of workers in a single company that works with concentrated sulfuric acid has been statistically screened for symptoms of disease. Strict scientific evidence to justify new standards cannot be derived from this case. Essentially, the studies were based only on experimentation with concentrated sulfuric acid or sulfuric acid enriched with SO3, so-called oleum.

The effect of the use of NP305 masks in improving respiratory symptoms in workers exposed to sulfuric acid mists in plating and pickling units
BACKGROUND Plating and pickling processes are the most effective ways for increasing the strength of metal structures, and workers in these units are exposed to various contaminants, including acid mists. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of protective masks in decreasing the respiratory symptoms and the aerobic capacity of workers that are exposed sulfuric acid mist. METHOD...

متن کاملA population-based case-control study of occupational exposure to acids and the risk of lung cancer: evidence for specificity of association.
Occupational exposure to strong inorganic acid mists containing sulfuric acid has been recognized as a carcinogen (Group 1) since 1992. An augmented, secondary data analysis of a population-based case-control study of lung cancer was conducted to assess lung cancer-specific risks using 772 lung cancer cases diagnosed between 1981 and 1985. Individually matched controls--on age, gender, and boro...

Introduction: Air pollution is one of the hazardous factors on human health and the environment. In the zinc production industry, because of process nature and using electrolysis pools, the amount of production and diffusion of some of the harmful pollutants such as acidic vapors is exceedingly high. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of push-pull ventilation system implemented for co...
